It wasn't all that long ago that I had an exchange with an actor. This fellow -- who shall be nameless -- was surprised and somewhat impressed that I could recount a great deal of his appearances in both Science Fiction and Fantasy projects. However, he was -- ahem -- damn near aghast when I mentioned that in his career he had a guest visit to the world of TV's ALF. You see, his position was that ALF wasn't Science Fiction, in the slightest. He kinda/sorta laughed at the idea. When I pointed out that -- ahem -- ALF was an abbreviation for Alien Life Form, he kinda/sorta shut up.
True story.
In any event ...
I don't bring this up to shame anyone. I don't expect actors and/or actresses to know anything about the properties they are paid to be a part of, but I did think it was a pretty big surprise that this guy didn't know that one simple fact at all. But I do bring this up because I noticed over on the Shout Factory website they're now selling what looks to be a couple different versions of The Complete ALF Collection. As per usual, there are different price points along with different extras, so you do have the opportunity to pick a release that's within your budgetary requirements. Rest assured: I get nothing in return for promoting this item on my website -- I've never even received a complimentary email from the folks at Shout Factory (though I've contacted them many, many, many times) -- so don't think you're necessarily doing me a solid in any way. I'm merely doing my part as a promoter of All Things Genre by passing along the info.
