Granted, not every visitor who got to play in this universe on the big or small screen got a meaty part. Such is the nature of storytelling, that some characters are just incidental or even circumstantial. But what amazes me is that even if that few minutes of screen time requires a mountain of preparation -- namely sitting in the make-up chair for what might be hours -- actors and actresses still do it if for no other reason that they get the kick of appearing in the beloved Gene Roddenberry creation.
While Mike Hagerty's visits to Trek weren't those big Emmy-contending stops, I suspect he still enjoyed himself. Who among us wouldn't get a total jazz out of playing a Klingon, especially at a time of near all-out galaxy-spanning war? I know I would. (Hollywood? Are you listening?)
Thankfully, Hagerty was no stranger to SciFi and Fantasy. In the scope of a career that spanned nearly five decades, he paid visits to such places as Hard Time On Planet Earth, Dick Tracy (1990), Mann & Machine, Space Truckers (1996), Angel, and Ghost Whisperer. Though he'll likely be remembered by a certain generation for his time aboard the popular sitcom Friends, I'l glad he brought his gifts to realms where he showed us a little something different.
Thoughts and prayers are extended to the man's family and friends.
