Interestingly enough, I happened across a nifty little SciFi Short Film this morning called Unforgettable. It kinda/sorta addresses exactly what I was thinking about during those early moments in Arnold's film; and it definitely gives audiences a little something to think about. It's smart, emotional, and only about six minutes of your life. Give it a watch, and I think you'll be glad you did.
A little something that always bugged me about Paul Verhoeven's epic SciFi flick Total Recall (1990) was that after Arnold Schwarzenegger's memories would've been commercially augmented to give him a trip to Mars, what would he have actually done with it? The new memories would've been entirely his own: and one of the most rewarding aspects of taking a vacation is that it gives a couple or a family shared experiences ... something they get to look back upon in the years ahead. Arnold's implants would've been his own. He couldn't share them with anyone. They'd have little to no referential value beyond himself. It's like a drug high without the drugs.
