As I said: "ahem."
Now, I won't belabor the point as that's clearly not the reason for this particular post today. I will say that there are a few endeavors in that season that don't deserve the reputation shared with other hours. Clearly, the show was struggling to do more with less -- such can be the case in network production -- and the stories showed an awful lot of seams.
Still, I think "The Empath" holds up fairly well. It's arguably a somewhat dated adventure, but the ideas and the performances worked strong enough ... and that includes the effort put forth by Kathryn Hays. As fate would have it, this was her only true foray into the realm of Science Fiction (there are a few Fantasy roles, but it is what it is); and she definitely deserves to be remembered by Trekkies, Trekkers, and general Trek enthusiasts for her brief time in our fictional universe. She went on from there to a rather long career in daytime soaps, but we'll always have our time with her on the second planet of the star named Minara.
Word reached me via Facebook that she's passed away. Thoughts and prayers are extended to those who knew her best.
