Anyone who has followed his career knows that he certainly rose to prominence opposite Sylvester Stallone in the boxing saga of Rocky Balboa, a series that even saw his character killed in the ring compliments of one Ivan Drago. That alone left a huge mark on fans, so I can't even begin to imagine what passing along the news of Weathers' passing will do to those of us left around.
But -- as one of the screen's immortal tough guys -- the actor wasn't left out of the action when in 1987 he joined forced with no less than Arnold Schwarzenegger himself in facing off against the ugliest mother-humper imaginable -- from the stars! Predator was a sensation, and -- yes -- Weathers' character also met a dark fate in that picture along with a whole ensemble of baddies. What a way to go.
But, thankfully, Weathers' career endured, and it's certainly safe to say that the man kept busy. That's why it was so great to see him cast in the Walt Disney streaming show The Mandalorian. His presence as 'Greef Karga' was a fabulous addition to -- ahem -- Seasons 1 and 2 of the property; and while it may've made for some interesting laughs what they did to him in Season 3 -- largely reducing him to comic relief -- that was another terrific example of how a craftsman like Weathers could sink his teeth into any project and truly bring it alive.
Our warmest prayers are extended to the family, friends, and fans of Mr. Weathers.
May he forever rest in peace.
