Well, it's here, and I, for one, am thrilled to welcome in a few days of downtime.
Also ... how's that 2024 going for all of you? Remember: it's still fresh and new, so seize the day, people. SEIZE THE DAY! If you don't, then the days will go by without you making those grand contributions that make a life lived worth living, and I want to know that you gave it all you had when you get to whatever destination the mighty Fates have in story for you.
But ... on to the news at hand ...
Folks, friends and family have long said I'm a bit dour when it comes to laughing, and nothing could be further from the truth. I love laughing ... it's just that I don't often find things all that funny. Comedy is its own bug, and I'll never quite understand it, but when I find someone I think is truly funny then I'm usually all-in. One such talent is Rowan Atkinson. The guy just knocks me out at almost every opportunity. He's got this kind of wild-eyed innocence about his Comedy, and practically no matter how often I see it the bits just still resonate. Whether he's doing the simple stuff with Mr. Bean or his more traditional stand-up style sketches, he just tickles my funny bone. A truly great and rare talent, and I wish we saw more of him.
While admittedly he's not exactly known in the worlds of the Fantastic, he did step very close to it by taking on the role of Doctor Who for Comic Relief, and it was -- naturally -- inspired, so I choose to mention him in this space. Also -- while this isn't purely Science Fiction or Fantasy -- he had a rather goofy Netflix 'special' that felt a bit more like a movie separated into small episodes: 2022's Man Vs. Bee had the man raging a one-man crusade against a pesky insect while being somewhat trapped inside the 'house of the future' that gets close enough to SciFi that I'll add that one for good measure. Not perfect. But still pretty damn funny.
Stilll, there's more ... a lot more ... to be thankful about on this day in Science Fiction History, so I encouraged every damn one of you to head on over to the Daily Citation Page and check it out. Whether it's birthdays, movies, or television, you can rest assured that there's always something worth your attention ... otherwise, I wouldn't be doing my job.
As always, thanks for reading ... thanks for sharing (always important, folks) ... thanks for being a fan ... and live long and prosper!
