Mine -- like so many of this side of the pond -- was Tom Baker. Granted, I was aware of others; I just hadn't tuned in to watch that program I'd heard about ... that Doctor Who. I've since had the good fortune to discover some of Jon Pertwee's work, and he certainly brought his own sensibilities as a showman to the role. When I did first watch the BBC program, I was pretty much won over, though I'll admit I had some initial reservations based on the quality of the special effects. And what was with that whole jumping between film and live-video stock? Seemed a bit distracting to me. Ah, well. Hindsight is 20/20.
