Patrick Macnee has a legendary face along with an ever more legendary voice. Today is his birthday, and here he is shown in a scene from the original Battlestar Galactica television series where he appeared as the mysterious Count Iblis. Though he's no longer with us, Macnee was born on this day in 1922.
It isn't every day that Science Fiction gets to celebrate the beauty that is Zsa Zsa Gabor, but today's her birthday. Zsa Zsa appeared in the 60's sci fi b-film, Queen of Outer Space. In case you don't believe me, then here's a quick clip. Don't blink, or you'll miss it!

HubbaHubba Alert! The voluptuous Mamie Van Doren lent her considerable assets to the realm of Science Fiction and Fantasy with appearances aboard The Navy Vs. The Night Monsters (1966) and Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women (1968). Van Doren was born on this day in 1931. [Source: IMDB.com]
I grew to love Rip Torn from his work on HBO's The Larry Sanders Show, where he displayed pure comic brilliance as a yes-man TV producer, but Rip -- who celebrates a birthday today -- was also phenomenal in a supporting role from the Men In Black films. Though he's no longer with us, Torn was born on this day in 1931.
Legendary French film director Francois Truffaut celebrates his birthday today. You may remember him as the scientist hoping to establish contact with the aliens in Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Though he's no longer with us, Truffaut was born on this day in 1932.
Actor Mike Farrell has gone down in television history for his work in CBS's long-running M*A*S*H. He has some SciFi credentials to his name, however, including work in Doomsday Machine (1972), The Questor Tapes (1974), The Six Million Dollar Man, and voicework as Jonathan Kent aboard several DC Comics animated properties. Farrell was born on this day in 1939.
Though critics (and even the novelist!) pretty much panned NBC's adaptation of Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles, I liked it quite well, though I'll admit it had some slow parts. In any event, Gayle Hunnicutt had a small role in the miniseries as the wife of serie's lead Rock Hudson. Hunnicutt was born on this day in 1943. [Source: IMDB.com]
Science Fiction doesn't often reach the cinematic heights as the campy Dr. Goldfoot and the Girl Bombs (1966), but kudos to teen idol Fabian for helping to make all of it palatable. Fabian was born on this day in 1943. [Source: IMDB.com]
Science Fiction and Fantasy author Eric Flint certainly has built a resume rich for those wishing to explore strange new worlds and new civilizations. The Joe's World series. The Belisarius series. The Jao Empire series. And there's much, much more. You can check out his web presence right here, and Flint was born on this day in 1947. [Source: ISFDB.org]

The immeasurably lovely Megan Gallagher -- whose done terrific genre work in Millennium, as well as having wonderful bit roles in Warehouse 13, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine -- also turns another year lovelier today. Gallagher was born on this day in 1960.
The talented Josh Stewart continues to build a name for himself with each and every property. Thus far, genre fans have appreciated what he's brought to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), Ghost Whisperer, No Ordinary Family, The Dark Knight Rises (2012), Transcendence (2014), and Interstellar (2014). Stewart was born on this day in 1977.
Coming full circle back to our beloved Star Trek, the actress Alice Eve (pictured above in her Starfleet-approved 'After Hours' uniform) celebrates a birthday today. Perhaps proving once and for all that "the human adventure" Gene Roddenberry hinted at long ago was truly dead, JJ Abrams cast the scantily-clad Alice to appear in the most unnecessary scene in all of Trek. She played Dr. Carol Marcus in Star Trek Into Darkness alongside returning regulars Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. Eve was born on this day in 1982.
Crystal Reed helped brave the alien phenomenon at the heart of 2010's critically drubbed Skyline. Still, that work paved the way for a regular gig on Teen Wolf. Reed was born on this day in 1985.
Actor Dane Dehaan -- who appeared in the rather good SciFi-themed superhero flick Chronicle -- also celebrates his birthday today. He'll soon be soon in Luc Besson's Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. He was born on this day in 1987.
In the realm of genre entertainment, Anna Diop is definitely on the rise. She's been seen in the short-lived Fantasy/Drama The Messengers and is slated to appeared on the forthcoming Titans for DC Entertainment. Diop was born on this day in 1988. [Source: IMDB.com]

A star is born! 1974's Zardoz premiered on this day theatrically, and it gave a hunky Sean Connery the chance to put his particular charisma at work in pulpy Science Fiction. Written and directed by John Boorman, here's the feature's plot summary as provided by our friends at IMDB.com:
"In the distant future, a savage trained only to kill finds a way into the community of bored immortals that alone preserves humanity's achievements."
For the record:
Ay carumba! It's hard to make something of the curious oddity that is so much of Zardoz. Boorman's script kinda/sorta rambles through this bizarre Dystopian setting, and the film's visuals never quite suggested anything that would smooth the narrative out for viewers. Perhaps it's best to just point out that the film -- despite its flaws -- was nominated for the Best Dramatic Presentation for the 1975 Hugo Awards.

Funny. That's probably the exact same face Warner Bros. executives had when they saw Jupiter Ascending's box office returns. The truth here is that fanboys probably saw this ultra-big-budget extravaganza compliments of 'The Wachowskis' as having stink all over it when it was unceremoniously pulled from its much-hyped 2014 summer release and dumped unceremoniously in February of 2015. (In case you missed it, that's when it opened on this day.) Plus, it had Channing Tatum cast as its brainy lead. Get it? Brainy lead. Let me tell you: Channing Tatum is no Keanu Reeves. Word up. Here's the plot summary from IMDB.com:
"A young woman discovers her destiny as an heiress of intergalactic nobility and must fight to protect the inhabitants of Earth from an ancient and destructive industry."
Ugh. Sounds like somebody crossed The Chronicles of Riddick with Downton Abbey.

On this day in 2018, Tom Sweterlitsch's The Gone World took readers into a place where Science Fiction meets deductive reasoning. According to our friends at Amazon.com, here's the plot summary:
"Shannon Moss is part of a clandestine division within the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. In western Pennsylvania, 1997, she is assigned to solve the murder of a Navy SEAL's family--and to locate his vanished teenage daughter. Though she can't share the information with conventional law enforcement, Moss discovers that the missing SEAL was an astronaut aboard the spaceship U.S.S. Libra--a ship assumed lost to the currents of Deep Time. Moss knows first-hand the mental trauma of time-travel and believes the SEAL's experience with the future has triggered this violence. Determined to find the missing girl and driven by a troubling connection from her own past, Moss travels ahead in time to explore possible versions of the future, seeking evidence to crack the present-day case. To her horror, the future reveals that it's not only the fate of a family that hinges on her work, for what she witnesses rising over time's horizon and hurtling toward the present is the Terminus: the terrifying and cataclysmic end of humanity itself. Luminous and unsettling, The Gone World bristles with world-shattering ideas yet remains at its heart an intensely human story."
