The great Roger C. Certainly, Wilford Brimley might seem a curious choice to celebrate on a website covering the realm of Science Fiction, but -- upon closer inspection -- he's been involved with several popular franchises. He starred in John Carpenter's The Thing (1982) and followed that up with Ron Howard's Cocoon (1985) and followed that up with a curious appearance in the (TV) Star Wars universe aboard Ewoks: The Battle for Endor (1985). The Biggs Darklighter story from the original Star Wars is just an amazing piece of SciFi serendipity: it was a character, it wasn't a character, etc. Personally, I'm glad for actor Garrick Hagon that Biggs certainly became part of the broader mythology, and how cool is it that two out of three fighter pilots on the same fateful run were played by actors who share a birthday? Hagon was born on this day in 1939.

Though he never quite seems to land the leading role when I see him, make no mistake: A Martinez is a venerable talent who does some amazing work whenever he's called upon. In her professional career, Denise Okuda (above right) contributed greatly to the aesthetic look of the various Star Trek television incarnations in her position with the Art Department. Also, she and her husband on considered 'regulars' on the Trek convention circuit. They're both online in different outlets, but be forewarned: they do not tolerate folks who disagree with them politically and can be very, very, very mean-spirited about it.
