Alas, folks, it isn't always easy for me to locate information on some of these older properties. Today's exhibit: I've been able to determine that it was on this day back in 1982 (in West Germany) that Unterwegs Nach Atlantis (aka On The Way To Atlantis) first premiered on broadcast television ... but that's about it. There are suggestions -- based on slim research -- that it actually may've premiered a year earlier (in another country); but until I'm able to locate more information about the show and its installments this is all I can tell you.
Television is famous for trying to tap the popularity of a current movie with a serialized adaptation, and on this day in 1989, Fox TV launched a small screen incarnation of Alien Nation (based on a 1988 theatrical film). This small screen version brought Gary Graham and Eric Pierpoint to the buddy-cop formula, and stories focused on these two and their circles of friends adapting to daily life with an alien species seeking asylum on Earth. Here's the series premise as listed on IMDB.com:
"A bigoted human policeman in the L.A. of the future and his alien partner learn to live with each other's differences while attempting to solve a drug conspiracy hidden in the subculture of Los Angeles' newest immigrant population: extraterrestrials."
For the record:
"A bigoted human policeman in the L.A. of the future and his alien partner learn to live with each other's differences while attempting to solve a drug conspiracy hidden in the subculture of Los Angeles' newest immigrant population: extraterrestrials."
For the record:
- At the 1990 Primetime Emmy Awards, Alien Nation took home top honors in the category of 'Outstanding Makeup For A Series.'
- Also in 1990, the Young Artist Awards nominated series' regular Lauren Woodland in the category of 'Best Young Actress Supporting Role in a Television Series.'
Sorry, kids, I can't tell you all that much about 90's cartoons. I was well into my adulthood at that point, so other responsibilities kept me away from them. However, I do know that a little something-something called Exosquad enjoyed its small screen debut on this day back in 1993. It certainly has a high audience score on IMDB.com (registering an incredible 8.4 on their 10.0 scale), so I might be inclined to check this one out should it show up anywhere on a streaming platform. Here's the series' premise as provided by IMDB.com:
"Set in the beginning of the 22nd century, an interplanetary war wages between humanity and the Neosapiens."

Folks, I kid you not: I didn't even know that there was an animated incarnation of Highlander -- under the name, even, of Highlander: The Animated Series. I guess I'm not all that surprised, however, as the franchise arguably established itself fairly early on as one of the better Fantasy premises out there. The show first premiered on this day back in 1994, and -- according to IMDB.com -- it lasted for two seasons. Here's the series' premise also from IMDB.com:
"In the post-apocalyptic medieval 27th century, Ramirez mentors young Quentin MacLeod who must seek pacified Immortals, gain their knowledge through a non-lethal form of Quickening, and free the land from the evil Immortal overlord Kortan."

Sherlock Holmes -- the detective with the most brilliant powers of deduction in human history -- continues to resonant more than a century after his creation ... so why not present him as a veritable superhero to the youngest among us? I suspect that was the intent when Sherlock Holmes In The 22nd Century gave lovers of animation an opportunity to see him at work well into the future. Here's the series' premise as provided by the good folks at IMDB.com:
"A defrosted Holmes teams with a robotic Watson and a female Inspector Lestrade to stop the criminal rampage of Moriarty's clone."

On this day in 2002, executives returned to the well that was so deliciously created when Rod Serling launched The Twilight Zone and attempted to recreate the magic. Chiefly, what this incarnation of the property did more astutely was deliver a modern era of production values, along with some great storytelling and guest stars. Here's the series' premise as provided by IMDB.com:
"This second revival of The Twilight Zone (1959) presents tales of suspense, fantasy, science fiction and horror."
