She-Wolf Of London was a Fantasy/Comedy starring the lovely Kate Hodge and the talented Neil Dickson as a somewhat mismatched pair drawn into the realm of the paranormal by their respective circumstances. I've read this one steered more strongly toward the comic elements than it did the Fantasy/Horror prospects, but such can be the nature of building an audience in the realm of the TV serials. It premiered on this day in 1990 (in the United Kingdom), and here's the series' premise as provided by IMDB.com:
"American graduate student Randi Wallace travels to Britain to study mythology with Professor Ian Matheson. She arrives expecting a stodgy old academic, but Ian is young, and the two are immediately attracted to one other. That complication quickly pales when Randi spends a night camping on the Moors and is bitten by a werewolf. For the rest of the series, Randi and Ian investigate supernatural phenomena together while they search for a cure for Randi's curse. Eventually, their search takes them from British academia to American television, when they move back to Randi's native California, and Ian becomes host of a trashy television talk show focusing on psychic phenomena."

Ahh, has there been a better driven example of Artificial Intelligence than K.I.T.T.? That's a question best answered by the folks of Team Knight Rider, a high-tech spin-off of the original that premiered on this day in 1997. Well, as fate would have it, there was only enough fuel in the tank for a mere single season of high-speed adventures; and here's the series' summary as provided by our friends at IMDB.com:
"Ten years ago, all it took was one man and one car to get the job done. Now, the Foundation for Law and Government has assembled five highly skilled operatives and paired them with most advanced, state-of-the-art vehicles to take on a new breed of outlaw. They are: "Team Knight Rider!""

The BeastMaster intellectual property is powerful enough to have spawned a small handful of motion pictures as well as a three-season television show. It premiered on this day back in 1999 starring the shirtless Daniel Goddard as 'Dar,' he who could not only communicate with beasts but also harness their innate abilities. Here's the series' premise as provided by IMDB.com:
"In this both spinoff and reboot of The Beastmaster (1982) film series, skilled young warrior Dar, the Beastmaster and last known survivor of his tribe, wanders the ancient lands, seeking out his beloved Kira, defending the animals he controls, and pitting his might against various sorcerers and tyrants. His friends, sidekick Tao, warrior Arina and later trickster, spirit guide and mentor Dartanus, who's the only one who knows what really happened to Dar's family, as well as Dar's deep conviction to fight for what's right and his unique ability to befriend and communicate with animals help Dar in his quests to defeat an evil Sorceress and a wicked wizard known as the Ancient One, as well as stop the evil god Balcifer and his minion and Dar's archnemesis, King Zad."
For the record:
In 2001, The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films nominated BeastMaster for the Saturn Award for 'Best Syndicated/Cable Television Series.'

I had high hopes for Birds Of Prey, the DC Comics-inspired superhero Fantasy that premiered on the WB on this day in 2002. Namely, it promised to kinda/sorta bring the greater world of Gotham City to the small screen, but, alas, it just wasn't meant to be. Despite ponying up some serious talent by way of Ashley Scott, Rachel Skarsten, and the fabulous Dina Meyer, the show only mustered a small audience and was gone in a single season. Here's the series' premise as provided by IMDB.com:
"Now Gotham's Undercover Superhero Batman has disappeared leaving behind a daughter from his long-time love Catwoman. Her name is Helena the mysterious superhero known as "The Huntress". She has teamed up with the paralyzed hero "Batgirl" together they meet up with their next teammate Dinah Lance. Dinah is a telepath and psychic who had terrifying dreams about Batgirl's brutal accident. They must learn how to work together and become not only a team of superheroes but also a family."

Unless I miss my guess, I believe this is officially the third time that TV producers have brought The Tomorrow People to life, though the first two were in the United Kingdom and this one came to the United States via The CW. Also, I believe the other incarnations lasted longer, as this one lasted only a single season after premiering on this day in 2013. I'm not familiar with this one -- well, other than reading about it -- so I'll have to let the series' premise from IMDB.com do my work for me:
"The story of several young people from around the world who represent the next stage in human evolution, possessing special powers, including the ability to teleport and communicate with each other telepathically. Together they work to defeat the forces of evil."

Jason Wingreen showed up as one of the victims in Star Trek's third season adventure, "The Empath," in 1968. Though he's no longer with us, Wingreen was born on this day in 1920.

Even folks who totally dismiss the 1980's Flash Gordon film as garbage -- which it isn't -- will tell you that one thing the flick got right was Prince Vultan, and that's largely due to the presence of Brian Blessed in the role. He has a long distinguished career playing exactly these kinds of characters who are full of life. As for other portrayals in Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror? Well, there are a few deserving mention. He served time aboard The Avengers, My Partner The Ghost, The Day After Tomorrow (1975), Space:1999, Survivors, Blake's 7, The Aphrodite Inheritance, Tales Of The Unexpected, Doctor Who, Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999), Wizards Vs Aliens, and a wealth of voice acting gigs. Blessed was born on this day back in 1936.

Actor Richard Chaves shared the screen with no less than Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers in the 1987 box office hit Predator. Furthermore, SciFi fans may remember him better from his work as 'Colonel Paul Ironhouse' in the late 80's TV series continuation of War of the Worlds. Chaves was born on this day in 1951.

While I'm admittedly no fan of Star Trek: Enterprise -- I thought it had only a handful of truly solid ideas, and I loved the period it was set in -- I've got nothing but respect for Scott Bakula. I think everyone loved his work on NBC's Quantum Leap, and maybe we were all looking for something a bit different out of Enterprise than the creative folks could deliver. Whatever the case may be, Mr. Bakula was born on this day back in 1954.

Before he played the OCD-fueled private detective Monk (on a show of the same name), veteran character actor Tony Shalhoub played an alien hiding in plain sight on Earth in the franchise property, Men In Black. Plus, he had an absolutely killer comic role in Galaxy Quest. Shalhoub was born on this day back in 1953.

I know genre veteran Michael Paré mostly from The Philadelphia Experiment (1984) and the TV superhero show, The Greatest American Hero. He apparently appeared in something else called Starhunter that has a relatively rabid following for its day. As for other adventures in the realm of the Fantastic? You can find him on display in Streets Of Fire (1984), Moon 44 (1990), Dragonfight (1990), Lunarcop (1995), Village Of The Damned (1995), Carver's Gate (1996), 2103: The Deadly Wake (1997), Falling Fire (1997), Space Fury (1999), Gargoyle (2004), Komodo Vs Cobra (2005), Seed (2006), Polycarp (2007), Bloodrayne II: Deliverance (2007), Abelar: Tales Of An Ancient Empire (2010), Amphibious Creature Of The Deep (2010), Bloodrayne: The Third Reich (2011), The Philadelphia Experiment (2012), Awaken (2015), The Vatican Tapes (2015), Sicilian Vampire (2015), WEAPONiZED (2016), Nessie & Me (2016), Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich (2018), Reborn (2018), Triassic Hunt (2021), Mummy Dearest (2021), Curse of The Re-Animator (2022), Bridge Of The Doomed (2022), and Space Wars: Quest For The Deepstar (2022). You want to talk about aliens? There's no more well-known alien than Kal-El, the last son of the dying planet Krypton who came here and assumed powers from our yellow sun in order to become Superman. Actor Brandon Routh gave the blue suit only a single outing in Superman Returns (2006), a stunningly tepid take (not his fault, awful script) on the Man of Steel by making him a bit of a metrosexual. It failed to genuinely reignite audience's passion for Supes, but Warner Bros. and DC persevered and (recently) brought us Man of Steel (with Henry Cavill assuming the lead role). Kudos to Routh, however, for keeping up in the world of superheroes as he rounded out that big screen experience with an assortment of roles aboard The CW's DC Universe line-up, including stops to Arrow, Batwoman, Supergirl, The Flash, DC's Legends Of Tomorrow, and Supergirl. Routh was born on this day back in 1979.

With as many stories that get told in any program fortunate enough to have a seven-year run, I've often found it amazing how very few tales are truly powerful. I don't say this to put any particular story or program down; rather, I think it's probably very hard to literally 'hit one out of the park' as some writers do. Such is the case with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's second episode of its fourth season (1995), an hour that repeatedly gets voted by fans as one of the best hours of Science Fiction ever written. "The Visitor" starts small, with the flickering of shadows and light, but -- before it's over -- everyone is reduced to tears. Here's the hour's summary as provided by IMDB.com:
"Melanie, an aspiring writer, wants to know why Jake Sisko stopped writing at 40. Jake tells how his father died in an accident and then suddenly reappeared."
