Certainly one of the more distinct actors of his generation, the great Burgess Meredith gave Fantasy a try on for size with a prominent role in 1981's Clash of the Titans. Interestingly enough, he also served as the narrator for 1983's Twilight Zone: The Movie. Though he's no longer with us, Meredith was born on this day in 1907.

The fabulous Ellen Albertini Dow did far more than steal scenes with her role aboard Adam Sandler's The Wedding Singer. She also turned up the heat as a somewhat villainous spectre aboard "Sub Rosa," a seventh season outing of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Plus she managed to squeeze in guest spots aboard The Twilight Zone, Beauty and the Beast, Memoirs of an Invisible Man (1992), Space Case (1992), Quantum Leap, and Good vs Evil. Though she's no longer with us, Dow was born on this day in 1917.

Royal Dano's career spanned over four decades in the entertainment industry as the actor completed roles in nearly 200 separate projects. Genre fans might recognize him from appearances in Lost In Space, the Planet of the Apes TV series, Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983), Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988), or Twin Peaks. Though he's no longer with us, Dano was born on this day in 1922.
Gosh, Clu Gulager is a talent I can remember showing up all over the programs and movies of my youth. Automan, Knight Rider, Airwolf, and The Hidden (1987) immediately spring to mind. Gulager was born on this day in 1928.
Deservedly, Joanna Pettet caught the eye of 'Michael Knight' with her appearance aboard the popular Knight Rider during its run. As for other work? Aside from a very fetching pictorial in Playboy Magazine, she turned up in a small role aboard 1967's James Bond film Casino Royale. Additionally, she made several appearances to the world of Rod Serling's Night Gallery during its run on television. She also enjoyed stops to the TV universes of Tales Of The Unexpected and Fantasy Island. Pettet was born on this day in 1942.

Actor Steve Railsback made a pretty big splash in sci-fi back in Tobe Hooper's Lifeforce (1985), one of the weird and most confusing SciFi midnight movie flicks to come out of the 1980's. He also had a great run on The X-Files as Duane Barry, the UFO abductee responsible for kidnapping Dana Scully. Railsback was born on this day in 1945.

For his work aboard the 2008 SciFi/Thriller Plaguers (from Nightfall Pictures), Railsback was awarded the 'Best Actor Award' from 2008's ShockerFest Film Festival. Kudos on a job well done!
ExtraExtra Alert:
Though I've had a lot of respect for Railsback, I'll be the first to admit he's had some curious roles throughout the years. Back in 2021, I had the good fortune of watching something he did back in the 1980's: a SciFi/Horror hybrid, Blue Monkey was about as pure a B-Movie as one gets from that era. Interested readers can check out my review right here.

Not only has the lovely Barbara Leigh graced the pages of Playboy magazine, she also enjoyed a guest spot aboard CBS's popular The Incredible Hulk during its run. Another tie the lady has to the world of genre entertainment is that she was hired as the original Vampirella for the comic. It's also rumored she enjoyed an affair with no less than Elvis Presley. Leigh was born on this day in 1946.

Mark my words: Miguel Sandoval consistently turns in some of the best work in even the shortest screen times known to man. Genre fans know him from roles in Voyagers!, Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann, Repo Man, Howard the Duck, Jurassic Park, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, The X-Files, and Medium. Sandoval was born on this day in 1951.
Dan Shor played a role in 1982's memorable Tron, the Walt Disney company's attempt to capitalize on both the SciFi and video game craze of its era. He also turned up as Billy the Kid in the cult favorite Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure as well as taking on guest spots aboard Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager. Marg Helgenberger, any time you want to come back into the realm of Science Fiction, we'd love to have you! Think what you may, but I think veteran character actor Harry Lennix is one to watch in whatever property he shows up. So far as Science Fiction is concerned, he's been a part of The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions, Dollhouse, and Man of Steel. Always playing roles full of authority, Lennix was born on this day in 1964.
Aboard Earth: Final Conflict, Dean McDermott played Brenton Michaels, a character who eventually gave his life as a hero of the Resistance. McDermott was born on this day in 1966.
The Americanized version of the BBC's Life On Mars wasn't as awful as critics made you think; rather it just didn't quite have the charisma it needed to make audiences truly care about its characters. Still, the program did give Lisa Bonet a chance to flex her acting muscles, so it did have that. Bonet was born on this day in 1967.

I was completely unaware that someone tried to do a spinoff from The Stepford Wives (1975), but apparently some enterprising TV producers thought that The Stepford Children (1987) was a good idea. Tammy Lauren had a role in the project, and she also appeared in Fox TV's short-lived 'Alien on Earth' series, The Visitor. Lauren was born on this day in 1968.
James Parks is a talented character actor who shows up when you least expect him. He's enjoyed screen time in Space: Above and Beyond, Babylon 5, Star Trek: Voyager, Crusade, The X-Files, Stargate: SG-1, Star Trek: Enterprise, Threshold, and Jericho. Parks was born on this day in 1968.
The venerable (and often very funny) Martha Plimpton made an appearance aboard Fox TV's excellent Fringe during its five season run. Plimpton was born on this day in 1970.
Lovely Missi Pyle was a comic scream to watch in 1999's Galaxy Quest -- a spoof that poked obvious, good-natured fun at Star Trek and its most rapid fans -- as were all of her co-stars. Also, she's booked a handful of roles of other genre-related properties while boasting arguably one of the busiest resumes I've seen on IMDB.com! Pyle was born on this day in 1972.

Sadly, Fox TV's Almost Human just never quite caught on in the truncated season it was given, and that's a shame since it boasted one of the most talented ensembles to grace a SciFi program in years. The great Michael Irby played Detective Richard Paul aboard the show, a kinda/sorta foil for series' star Karl Urban. Irby was born on this day in 1972.
In case you've missed it, the always stunning Ona Grauer (shown above from the rebooted V) has built an impressive resume in quality genre work. She's had roles aboard Sliders, The Net, Harsh Realm, First Wave, Stargate: SG-1, Andromeda, Stargate: Atlantis, Smallville, Flash Gordon, Stargate Universe, Fringe, and Elysium. Grauer was born on this day in 1975.
The fetchingly ginger Kristen Harris turned in a terrifically grounded performance as the distraught mother of a daughter trapped between worlds aboard Syfy's SciFi-lite Channel Zero: Candle Cove. Harris was born on this day in 1976.
Sorry, Gigi Edgley, but I probably couldn't pick you out of a police line-up if you were out of make-up. That's because -- quite frankly -- I can't even begin to possibly imagine what you look like except in the visage of the sexy and devilish Chiana. Oh, why oh why won't someone do a Farscape reunion movie? Fans would love to see you back in leather! As for the rest of her career? She's made appearance aboard The Lost World, BeastMaster, Showdown At Area 51 (2007), Quantum Apocalypse (2010), Star Trek Continues, and Beast Of The Water (2017). Let's keep it comin', milady! Edgley was born on this day back in 1977.

Although I'm not fond of her politics, Maggie Gyllenhaal is certainly one of today's braver and most uncompromising actresses. Alexa Havins enjoyed some modest success in the stateside kinda/sorta reboot of the BBC's Torchwood program, better known as Torchwood: Miracle Day. As I've mentioned many, many times before, I'm not a video game specialist by any measure of the imagination; I only follow them casually as I do like to mention the standouts here. In that regard, the lovely Gemma Atkinson played a key visual part aboard Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3. Atkinson was born on this day in 1984.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the only season of NBC's ballyhooed program Heroes I really cared for was the first. On this day in 1973 (in Ireland), Soylent Green found audiences hungry for the SciFi flick in theatres. The film starred Charlton Heston, and here's the plot summary from IMDB.com:

Because of my various interests -- science fiction, aliens, conspiracies, etc. -- Close Encounters of the Third Kind is one of those films that really ought to resonate with me more than what it does, and for the life of me I couldn't say why it doesn't. I guess that, having seen so many other movies and TV shows that explored the phenomenon in my lifetime Steven Spielberg's attempt to explore the idea of 'life out there' coming down here just didn't seem all that "original." Still, Close Encounters opened the eyes of many audiences members when it premiered on this day (in New York City) back in 1977, and all of us should be thankful for that. (Full U.S. release was a few weeks later.) Here's the plot summary from IMDB.com:

At the 1988 Saturn Awards (sponsored by the Academy Of Science Fiction, Fantasy, And Horror Films), actor Richard Dawson took home top honors in the category of 'Best Supporting Actor' for his work in the film. Otherwise, the picture had to settle for nominations alone in the categories of 'Best Costumes' and 'Best Science Fiction Film.'

There are some who say that it wasn't until Fritz Lang's Metropolis made its silver screen debut that Science Fiction -- as a motion picture -- was truly born, and I suppose there might be a glimmer of truth to that. IMDB.com denotes only a single critical citation back then -- it received a nomination in the category of 'Most Popular Film' at the 1927 Faro Island Film Festival -- and it has racked up some solid accolades since then, especially with its 2002 restoration and subsequent home video releases.
