TV's Shadow Chasers was a weekly paranormal procedural created by Kenneth Johnson and Brian Grazer via Warner Bros. Television for the 1985-1986 season. (It premiered on this day in 1985.) While I can't prove this, I suspect that it was intended to tap the popularity of the Ghostbusters movie which ignited audience's fascination with ghosts and beyond just the previous summer. Apparently that fascination didn't quite translate to the Boob Tube as this one only lasted a truncated single season. Still, kudos to all involved for giving it a go.
As mankind's options for entertainment continues to grow, streaming entities like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu have been getting into the business of Science Fiction, and one of Hulu's bright spots has been the SciFi/Comedy Future Man (it premiered all first season episodes on this day in 2017). Congrats to the gang for bringing a bawdy sense of humor to the occasionally stuffy venue of time travel; the future can always use more ... erm ... bawd?
Late in the career of the lovely Rosemary DeCamp, she made a turn toward the world of Science Fiction with roles aboard TV's incarnation of H.G. Though she's no longer with us, DeCamp was born on this day in 1910.

He's perhaps one of the great unsung heroes of early Science Fiction, and you may not even have ever heard his name! As Fate would have it (and as I've read), Ken Hultgren was an animator kinda/sorta on break from his work with Walt Disney Studios in the 1950's when one of his compatriots (Joshua Meador) came calling with an interesting assignment: MGM needed someone to design the infamous 'Id Monster' to be feature in their forthcoming Science Fiction film, Forbidden Planet (1956). Meador and Hultgren put their creative heads together and fleshed out what you see above, the embodiment of SciFi's original silver screen monsters. Though the sequence was apparently animated by Meador, I've read that the creature itself came from Hultgren's designs. And the greatest shame of all? It looks like the pair's work on the film was entirely uncredited. Still, their collective effort still resonates today! Though he's no longer with us, Hultgren was born on this day in 1915.

Back in the days when Star Trek enthusiasts were ready, willing, and able to plunk down money to keep their franchise alive in any fashion possible, Gold Key Comics did what they could to capitalize on that interest. Illustrator Alberto Giolitti was only one of the illustrators brought aboard to keep the adventures of the Starship Enterprise and Captain Kirk and crew brought to life in colorful page fashion. His career lasted an impressive twenty-five issue run. Though he's no longer with us, Giolitti was born on this day in 1923.

Arguably, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's first and second season were a bit uneven. Before the show found its solid footing in tales of the Dominion War, most of the stand-alone episodes bobbed and weaved at ends of the quality spectrum; still, one of its better early outings was "Blood Oath," an adventure which saw Jadzia Dax taking on 'The Albino' with some Klingon warriors. In it, Bill Bolender played the signature villain only seen in the hour's later moments. The actor's resume also includes work in RoboCop 2 (1990), The Adventures Of Brisco County Jr., Plughead Rewired: Circuitry Man II (1994), Sliders, and Weird Science. Bolender was born on this day in 1940.

Ahhh, nothing screams "it's an Apocalypse" like a souped-up road vehicle driven by a "man without a name," and that's largely what audiences were treated to with Warrior Of The Lost World (1983), a SciFi flick that's even been panned by the folks at Mystery Science Theatre 3000. But that's not Robert Ginty's fault! After all, he only headlined the thing. Though he's no longer with us, Ginty was born on this day in 1948.

Sweet jeepers, people, can we please celebrate the glorious career of Sandahl Bergman? Odds are many have either never heard of her or simply didn't know her name, but where oh where would genre entertainment be without the likes of this lovely and talented actress? She's appeared as a Muse in the pop rock flick Xanadu as well as boasting roles in She (1982), Conan the Barbarian (1982), Airplane II: The Sequel (1982), Red Sonja (1985), Programmed to Kill (1987), Hell Comes To Frogtown (1988), Hard Time On Planet Earth, Freddy's Nightmares, Swamp Thing (TV), TekWar: TekJustice, and Sliders. I've always admired the work of D.B. Sweeney. He had a great gig in a Friday night Fox series -- Strange Luck -- that lasted most of a season, but it wasn't meant to be. He tried again -- on Fox even -- with Chris Carter's Harsh Realm, a show that I really thought could've developed into something terrific had it been given more time. And he gave the alien abduction drama Fire in the Sky its human connection. Sweeney was born on this day in 1961.

Patrick Warburton is no James Bond. He only dresses like James Bond. Though regular folks will always know him as the blissfully oblivious David Puddy from NBC's TV classic Seinfeld, Warburton probably has an even larger, louder following associated to his various other projects, including bringing Buzz Lightyear to life (on television, at least) as well as the most confidently heterosexual known to animation, The Venture Bros.'s Brock Sampson. "Dr. Jonathan MacKensie, professor of anthropology at Georgetown Institute of Science & Technology is 'persuaded' to take over the directorship of Dr. Moorhouse's newly established Paranormal Research Unit to investigate unexplainable phenomena, starting with reports of poltergeist activity in a little town in northern California. Once in Fartham, his reluctant investigation leads him to a dark cemetery and a fateful meeting with Edgar ('Call Me Benny, Edgar's Just For the Press') Benedek, who is also prowling around the tombstones on the scent of the same story. Although the flamboyant, self-aggrandizing author (and infamous tabloid reporter) immediately grates on Jonathan's nerves, he recognizes that Benny is considerably more experienced in the investigation of paranormal phenomena than he is (or ever wishes to be) and a partnership is born. The inhabitants of Briarwood Road feared their neighbor, Robert Pence, a professional occultist who claimed to derive his dark powers from his infamous ancestor Angelica Pence, a Salem witch. When Pence died in a mysterious fire, the neighbors stayed behind locked doors and drawn curtains while Pence's young son, Billy, futilely begged for their aid. Now those same neighbors are being plagued by mysterious and threatening phenomena, as though Pence were reaching out from beyond the grave to exact his revenge. Before long, Jonathan and Benny are on the trail of what's really behind the seemingly paranormal attacks, but not before their own lives are threatened by the same circumstances that took Pence's life."
