I know, I know, I know. 'Shut up, old man,' you're saying, and I'm responding with 'Get off my lawn, you punk!' But I stand by what I opened this little announcement with: the 1980's produced a lot of films that may not have aged quite as well as other decades -- especially when we're talking about the technological advances -- but their stories continue to resonate with folks who find them decades later. So why shouldn't these motion pictures get the necessary upgrade in order to keep them in pristine condition for today's discriminating viewers?
Well, it looks like the good people at Shout Factory would agree, as they're ponying up a restoration of 1984's somewhat visionary WarGames from genre director John Badham just in time for the holiday season. According to the information that I'll be copying and pasting below, this 4K Blu-ray will hit the streets on December 20th. If you haven't seen it -- or if your old copy has started to fade and you're inclined to pick up something fresher -- then mark your calendars as this one is as good today as it was back then.
Matthew Broderick. Ally Sheedy. And Barry Corbin offering to piss on a spark plug if it'll help things out.
Classic. Cinema.
