in memoriam
A quick glance at IMDB.com indicates that the talent hadn't done anything in quite some time -- nothing necessarily unusual there -- but he definitely was a name that serious Star Trek fans knew and probably those who follow genre works closely. As is often the case with actors and actresse who are onscreen for a few decades, he definitely enjoyed success beyond the barriers of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror; but I'll mention a few of the highlights that generally tickle the fancies of fans.
- In 1972, he enjoyed a bit of screen time aboard Between Time And Timbuktu for National Education Television and the Public Broadcast System.
- In 1979, he appeared aboard an episode of TV's Wonder Woman, "The Girl With A Gift For Disaster."
- In 1979, he appeared aboard Buck Rogers In The 25th Century's two-part adventure, "The Plot To Kill A City," in both installments.
- In 1980, he found some moments in a small role aboard the Fantasy/Musical Xanadu for Universal Pictures.
- In 1985, the actor enjoyed a guest spot aboard "Guess What's Coming To Dinner," an episode of Misfits Of Science.
- In 1991, he paid a visit to Quantum Leap, appearing in the episode titled "Last Dance Before An Execution."
- The actor was gainfully employed not once but twice in the world of TV's Star Trek: The Next Generation. First, in 1991 he played the Romulan defector 'Setol' in an episode titled "The Detector." Next, in 1994 he suited up as the Klingon 'K'Mtar' in the seventh season episode titled "Firstborn."
- Also in 1994, he appeared in "Roland," an episode of Fox TV's popular The X-Files.
- 1995 saw the man whisked to the other side of the Delta Quadrant for a role aboard "Jetrel," an episode of Star Trek: Voyager.
- Also in 1995, Sloyan enjoyed guest work aboard Fox TV's short-lived Strange Luck, a series about chance and fate meaning more than just words.
- Lastly, the actor paid two visits to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. As 'Dr. Mora,' he shared a strained connection to Constable Odo in not one but two episodes -- 1994's "The Alternate" and 1997's "The Begotton."
Our warmest prayers are extended to the family, friends, and fans of James Sloyan.
May he rest in peace ...
