in memoriam
One of Hollywood's most storied talents, he never really had a great deal of genre-style work in his catalogue. He'd appear sparingly in the kind of things I cover here on SciFiHistory.Net, but it was usually in reasonably small roles, supporting what he likely felt was a good story. Back in 2014, he did make a pretty notable appearance in the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with an important part in Captain America: The Winter Soldier; and that's probably the biggest reason how the modern generation of moviegoers know who he is.
At some point in his career, he did kinda/sorta move a bit out of the acting spotlight, turning his eyes toward fostering a stronger cultural impact on entertainment at large; but I'd read somewheres (I forget where) that he even left that behind, choosing instead to focus more on the kind of storytelling that meant more to him personally. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that: when you live a life as full as he did, you definitely want to be doing things to fuel your passion because that's really the only legacy one leaves behind here.
Our prayers are extended to the family, friends, and fans of Mr. Redford.
May he rest in peace.
