On this day in 1986 (in the Soviet Union), one of the most adapted literary works in history -- The Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde -- got itself yet one more adaptation. Written (in part) and directed by Aleksandr Orlov, the Horror/Thriller starred Innokenti Smoktunovsky, Aleksandr Feklistov, Alla Budnitskaya, and others.
According to our friends at IMDB.com, here's the plot summary:
"Dr. Henry Jekyll experiments with scientific means of revealing the hidden, dark side of man and releases a murderer from within himself."
For the record:
To the film's credit, The Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde earned a wee bit of extra attention from a screening on the film festival circuit.
Editor's Note:
Technically, The Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde's original premiere date is a bit lost to history. Presently, IMDB.com indicates solely that the film premiered in May of 1960; so -- as is my practice -- I use the first day of the cited month as a temporary placeholder, always hoping I'll eventually secure more definitive information.
