There have been a slate of real in-your-face type of haunts delivered in the last few years that have accomplished great things by setting their stories in or around the home. I'm not talking about Freddy Krueger invading your dreams; no, I'm meaning the film's villain quite literally walks in your front door and destroys life as you knew it. While some of them have offered up bad guys looking like they could be any Tom, Dick, Harry, or Zach, others have toyed more with the psychology of terror and covered their mugs with skulls, masks, and the like.
Barbarians look to be more of the same but with a modestly humourous twist. The film appears to have scored moderate-to-better-than-average at a few festival airings; and it's how set for full consumption this upcoming April 1st, a prankster of a release date if ever there were.
Here's the plot summary as provided by IMDB.com:
"A dinner party in a country house that sees four friends come together for a birthday celebration. But as the night progresses secrets emerge and unsettling events begin to unfold around them."
The coming attraction definitely hints at more conventional conflict as well. Who knows how all of that might play out? Dare I suggest that there might await some dark turns for the regular folks as well? Only time will tell.
Trailer is below. You know what to do.
As always, thanks for reading ... and live long and prosper!
