Back in the earliest days of his professional career when apparently he was little more than a head, the ubiquitous B-Movie hunk Wings Hauser made a splash in what looks to have been one more direct-to-DVD release from the bygone era. It was on this day all the way back in 1988 -- in the former nation state of West Germany (asks your parents, kids) -- when Dead Man Walking made its stride to the shelves of your local Blockbuster rental/retailer.
Directed by Gregory Dark from a story by John Weidner and Rick Marx, the film starred Hauser alongside such other talents as Brion James, Pamela Ludwig, Jeffrey Combs, Leland Crooke, Sy Richardson, Joe D'Angerio, Tasia Valenza, Penelope Sudrow, Nancy Locke, and others. Here's the plot summary as provided by our friends at IMDB.com:
"After Leila, his boss's daughter, is kidnapped by psychopathic plague victim Decker, chauffeur Chazz teams up with plague-infected mercenary Luger to penetrate the toxic & off-limits Plague Zone and bring her back alive."
As sometimes happens with these older VHS releases that have not found new life on DVD or streaming, Dead Man Walking looks to be in the public domain or at least in that fertile realm wherein no one's looking for it fervently. As such, it's up in its entirety on YouTube.com; and I'm posting the link below for those of you who may wish to check out its subversive goodness.
As always, thanks for reading ... thanks for sharing ... thanks for being a fan ... and live long and prosper!
