I suspect that for a whole generation of Star Trek fans there will always be a raging debate over who was the "better" captain of the Enterprise: James T. Kirk or Jean Luc Picard. At my ripe old age, I'm perfectly comfortable saying that each of these stalwart gentlemen had their particular time and place within the greater Trek mythology, and while I might prefer Kirk's bravado over Picard's diplomacy I'll give each man his due.
From what I've read, I do know that Sir Patrick Stewart was originally a bit reluctant to agree to his tenure aboard the Enterprise-D, but I guess he's probably much happier today that he did. Stewart was born on this day in 1940.

There are those who've long argued that if Gene Roddenberry were Star Trek's "father" then longtime TV producer Robert Justman was a beloved "uncle." The man was involved with the original Trek as well as helping to bring Star Trek: The Next Generation to life. Though he's no longer with us, Justman was born on this day in 1926.

In brutal honestly, I'll admit that there wasn't all that much interesting to come out of Star Trek: The Next Generation's forgettable first season, but one of the more memorable additions to Trekdom was the creation of the Ferengi. Actor Frank Corsentino was gifted with the opportunity of playing one of these early aliens in "The Battle," and he served up the vengeance-fueled rogue Ferengi captain quite well. Though he's no longer with us, Corsentino was born on this day in 1941.

Robert Forster has always had a 'workman' ethic about him. Though his career in the biz began in the late 60's, I first remember seeing him in a little mystery/actioner called Stunts that was playing on a pay-cable channel around that time. Despite a relatively weak script, he made a suitable lead as Capt. Dan Holland in Walt Disney's The Black Hole (1979). If you haven't seen it, check it out ... just don't expect much. Though he's no longer with us, Forster was born on this day in 1941.

Shame on you, Harrison Ford, for your recent comments: when asked whether or not it was he or Greedo who shot first, the actor replied, "I don't know, and I don't care!" Of course, anyone with half a brain knows that it was Solo who shot first. Get with the program, Ford. Fandom expects better from you! Ford was born on this day in 1942.
