Without a doubt, The CW Network cemented its commitment to growing its superhero content on this day in 2016 when DC's Legends Of Tomorrow premiered in the lineup.  The format of time-travelling heroes jetting through the centuries on missions needing some temporal tweaking made for great fun in the early installments, though I'll admit the program's grown a bit tedious with whole seasons dedicated to 'magical creatures' and the like.  Also, the show has maintained an interesting open-door policy, allowing some of its cast to go on to other projects while signing up new men and women to fulfill whatever destiny its writers create.  And still, our Legends persevere, and for that mankind should always be thankful.

It all began right here: fandom!  On this day back in 1972, Star Trek fans gathered for the very first time to launch a phenomenon that continues to this day ... that being Star Trek conventions!  So it is in that very spirit that we say "live long and prosper"!

Who would've ever guessed that it would take something like a little doll to bring screen tough guy Telly Savalas to his knees?  Ah, the things we learn from art!  Such was the case with Telly's visit to Rod Serling's Fantastical world of The Twilight Zone back in 1963.  In fairness, Telly didn't do much work in genre, but we do have performances from The Man From U.N.C.L.E., On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), Horror Express (1972), Lisa And The Devil (1974), and Capricorn One (1977) to appreciate.  Also, late in his life, the actor provided voice to a character aboard the animated Gobots: Battle Of The Rock Lords (1986).  Though he's no longer with us, Savalas was born on this day in 1922.

The late Charles Aidman definitely has a unique connection to the greater universe of The Twilight Zone: not only did he appear twice in the original but also he served as the narrator for the mid-1980's incarnation of the show.  Additionally, he made appearances in such properties as Destination Space (1959), One Step Beyond, Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, The Invisible Man, and Innerspace.  Though he's no longer with us, Aidman was born on this day in 1925.

Back in the days when she wasn't so politically relevant and she wasn't touting her MENSA membership so much, actress Geena Davis was willing to ham it up for SciFi, playing Valerie in the cult flick Earth Girls Are Easy.  A few years before that, she enjoyed a fabulous SciFi breakout role in director David Cronenberg's remake of the classic The Fly (1986).  Davis was born on this day in 1956.

Every now and then, an actor comes along who I think ends up being under-appreciated largely due to the roles he ends up being cast in.  Now, this isn't typecasting, per se: rather, I think it's just a phenomenon wherein the actor's true talent never gets showcased the way it could if other opportunities balanced out the 'professional karma.'  Such a man is Michael Wincott, a face I've enjoyed in everything he's done -- even when the film is as largely forgettable as Alien: Resurrection.  Most recently, he played the somewhat conflicted cyber-terrorist Adrian Cross in 24: Live Another Day.  He's also chewed scenery as the signature villain in The Crow and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.  Wincott was born on this day in 1958.

For a time, HBO's 'interpretation' of the Sookie Stackhouse world made for interesting television diversion with True Blood, but it took some weird turns that didn't quite feel organic in its last seasons.  Whatever the case, Luke Grimes showed up for a solid handful of episodes -- sans shirt, at one point.  I suspect that made some ladies happy.  Grimes was born on this day in 1984.
