What's awaiting for you On This Day In Science Fiction History for July 11th? Well, the only way you're going to know is to follow the link, my friend ...
July 11 Enjoy your day, and I'll see you tomorrow! Whoa, what a manly day, indeed! Bits and bytes on Escape from New York, the Mad Max franchise, Universal Soldier ... and did I mention my own brave new world vampire saga Rainville (which is pretty much in the same vein) is now available in softcover and ebook formats at Amazon? Testosterone does indeed rule the day!
July 10 Have a good one, and I'll see you in about 24 hours ... unless you see me first ... The truth is I didn't dig the original Tron -- which premiered theatrically on this day back in 1982 -- as much as the next fanboy. Oh, I liked the idea well enough; I just wasn't all that won over by the presentation. Still, I'm glad the franchise got its digital feet firmly planted because I totally love what they did with it three decades later with Tron: Legacy ... though I know I'm one of the only ones who feel that way. Meh. It is what it is.
In any event, that's only part of why you're here. As for the rest? July 9 There you go, kids. Play safe, and I'll see you tomorrow. Torchwood -- the BBC's spinoff from its long-running Doctor Who -- isn't nearly as well known as its inspiration, but thank goodness that didn't keep the lovely Eve Myles from enlisting on the program. All seasons are currently available on home video -- including its partially American backed miniseries "Miracle Day" -- and they're definitely worth a look.
July 8 Take a gander, share with your friends, don't forget to check out and purchase multiple copies of my debut novel Rainville (you'll be glad you did!), and I'll be back tomorrow. Mine -- like so many of this side of the pond -- was Tom Baker. Granted, I was aware of others; I just hadn't tuned in to watch that program I'd heard about ... that Doctor Who. I've since had the good fortune to discover some of Jon Pertwee's work, and he certainly brought his own sensibilities as a showman to the role. When I did first watch the BBC program, I was pretty much won over, though I'll admit I had some initial reservations based on the quality of the special effects. And what was with that whole jumping between film and live-video stock? Seemed a bit distracting to me. Ah, well. Hindsight is 20/20.
July 7 Take a gander at what Sci-Fi History shows you for today, and I'll be back tomorrow. With Demolition Man and Judge Dredd under his belt, I honestly expected Sci-Fi would see a bit more from Sylvester Stallone than we did. Alas, I guess it wasn't meant to be. Still, he continues to score hits at the box office, and -- while that may be good for most -- I'd happily see him tinker in our world again if he so chooses.
July 6 Have yourselves a wondrous day, peeps, and I'll see ya tomorrow! Dare I say it? That's right, peeps: will the editor of SciFiHistory.Net actually say something so controversial about Ronald Moore that you won't believe it with your own eyes? Well, you'll just have to follow the link if for no better reason than to see what's up On This Day In Science Fiction History ... and the both of us will be vastly better people because of it!
July 5 Have a safe day, peeps! See you tomorrow! As the history of any nation reminds us, it's those men who occasionally toil in the background who truly make rebellions work ... and that's a little something actor Rohan Nichol might know something about. What would he know? Well, you're going to have to read about the man (and the myth) to figure it out, and you can do so right here ...
July 4 That's all I've got for today. Be safe out there, peeps, and I'll see you tomorrow. Sometimes, it's hard to believe that a flick like Robert Zemeckis's Back to the Future is practically thirty years old. Even by today's standards, the film seems so fresh, relevant, and vibrant that it isn't hard to imagine it being made just yesterday.
July 3 Never forget to refer your friends to the site, peeps, and I'll see you tomorrow! Sure, maybe Tommy has made a career out of playing 'Maverick' one too many times, but that doesn't mean he isn't good at it, no? Besides, it's his birthday, and everyone deserves to have a little slack cut for them on their birthday.
July 2 Enjoy the day, peeps, and I'll see you in 24 hours! |
