On this day in 1953 (in the U.S.), the big city of Hollywood, California played host for an exclusive theatrical premiere engagement of Knights Of The Round Table. Directed by Richard Thorpe from a story by Thomas Malory, Noel Langley, Jan Lustig, and Talbot Jennings, the film starred Robert Taylor, Ava Gardner, Mel Ferrer, and others.
According to our friends at IMDB.com, here's the plot summary:
"King Arthur's rule is threatened by the adulterous love between Sir Lancelot and Queen Guinevere, a relationship the king's enemies hope to exploit."
For the record:
At the 1954 Academy Awards, Knights Of The Round Table received nominations -- but no wins -- in the categories of 'Best Sound Recording' and 'Best Art Direction - Set Direction (Color).'
ExtraExtra Alert:
