On this day in 1919 (in Germany), the big city of Berlin played host for the exclusive theatrical premiere of The Doll (aka Die Puppe) for Projektions-AG Union. Written (in part) and directed by Ernst Lubitsch, the film starred Ossi Oswalda, Hermann Thimig, Victor Janson, and others.
According to our friends at IMDB.com, here's the plot summary:
"Forced into marriage by his uncle, a man decides to fool him by marrying a life-like mechanical doll instead."
