in memoriam
Like so many in fandom, I was a bit starstruck with the lady's breakout work aboard NBC's Heroes when it premiered. Granted, the show really lost direction and steam fairly quickly -- in my humble estimation it might be one of those rare projects that would've worked better as a one-off series or maybe two seasons -- but Hayden's whipsmart cheerleader 'Claire Bennet' was a force to be reckoned with among the heroic lot. I believe I did catch her work as well in that Nashville series, but it just wasn't something I stuck with over any reasonable duration because it really didn't interest me.
A quick rundown of her professional profile shows that she definitely had a few others entries deserving of mention. She got her professional start in a TV sitcom that incorporated extraterrestrials in everyday life -- Aliens In The Family -- back in 1996; and then she slowly evolved her skills across some mainstream efforts. In 1998, she voiced 'Dot' from Walt Disney and Pixar's A Bug's Life -- a property that gave her opportunities to return to the character a few times -- and, in 1999, she visited the work of TV's Touched By An Angel.
With the turn of the century, she continued to impress critics and casual viewers alike. In 2000, she supplied the voice for 'Suri' in Dinosaur. As well as continuing to act, she began exploring a career in singing, only then to eventually answer the call coming from the realms of the Fantastic to play the cheerleader whose saving meant saving the world. (If you've seen the show, then you understand the reference.)
Our warmest prayers are extended to the family, friends, and fans of Hayden Panettiere.
May she forever rest in peace ...
