From Google.com:

"A World of His Own" (Season 1, Episode 36) is the hilarious finale of the first season of The Twilight Zone. Written by legendary sci-fi author Richard Matheson, the story follows a playwright who discovers he can bring his fictional characters to life simply by describing them into his tape recorder. [1, 2, 3]

The Premise

Playwright Gregory West (Keenan Wynn) is caught by his wife, Victoria (Phyllis Kirk), in his study with a beautiful, affectionate woman named Mary (Mary LaRoche). However, when Victoria storms in to confront them, Mary has already vanished. To Victoria's disbelief, Gregory confesses that Mary is a character he created using his dictation machine. [2, 3, 4, 5]

The Mechanics of Creation

Gregory demonstrates his reality-altering powers:
  • To Create: He speaks details of a character into his wire recorder, and they magically appear in the room.
  • To Destroy: He takes the tape of the character, throws it into the fire, and they immediately disappear. To further prove his point to his skeptical wife, he even dictates and manifests a full-grown elephant into his hallway. [2, 3, 7]

The Twist

When Victoria continues to threaten him and attempts to call for help, Gregory decides to reveal her own true origin. He tells her that he could never naturally attract a woman as wonderful and vibrant as her, revealing that she, too, is simply his creation. [2, 3, 8]
He shows her the tape on which he wrote her character. Out of stubbornness and disbelief, Victoria grabs her own tape and throws it into the fireplace, ceasing to exist as she realizes the truth a second too late. [3, 9]

The Ending

Rather than bringing Victoria back, Gregory decides to bring the sweet and agreeable Mary back to live with him. [9]

In a legendary, meta-fictional twist, the episode concludes with series creator Rod Serling making an on-screen appearance in Gregory’s study. Serling narrates the final wrap-up to the audience, explaining that such ridiculous things could never happen. Annoyed by the interruption, Gregory scolds Serling for being a buzzkill, casually snips off a piece of the tape holding Serling's character, and tosses it into the fire—making Rod Serling himself vanish from the screen. [4, 6, 8, 9]
