Ghost Month (also known as The Offerings) is a 2009 American independent horror film directed by Danny Draven.
The Plot
Fleeing her abusive ex-boyfriend, a young woman named Alyssa takes a job as a housekeeper for a wealthy Chinese family in a secluded desert home. Her arrival coincides with the seventh month of the Chinese calendar, a sacred period where the gates of hell open and restless spirits are allowed to roam the mortal realm. Alyssa’s employers perform strict nightly rituals to appease the dead and warn her of taboos—such as never whistling or turning around if someone calls her name. When she accidentally disturbs sacred offerings, she begins experiencing terrifying visions and uncovers the dark mystery surrounding the family's missing former housekeeper.
