On this day in 1960 (in the U.S.), The Leech Woman -- like a paraside -- attached itself to our collective consciousness with its first theatrical exhibition. Directed by Edward Dein from a story by David Duncan, Ben Pivar, and Francis Rosenwald, the SciFi/Horror starred Coleen Gray, Grant Williams, Gloria Talbott, and others.
According to our friends at IMDB.com, here's the plot summary:
"When a very old African woman offers an ambitious endocrinologist the secret of eternal youth, he decides to take his estranged and no-longer-young-and-beautiful wife along with him on the safari. But then she finds out the true reason for their sudden reconciliation is so that she can serve as his guinea pig. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, especially one with a stolen pineal gland tapper. But once you try Nipe, there's no going back."
Editor's Note:
Technically, The Leech Woman's original premiere date is a bit lost to history. Presently, IMDB.com indicates solely that the film premiered in May of 1960; so -- as is my practice -- I use the first day of the cited month as a temporary placeholder, always hoping I'll eventually secure more definitive information.
