SciFiHistory.Net is constantly growing; and, yes, that's a good thing.
One of the unintended consequences of such unheralded growth is that -- from time to time -- I find it necessary to give the 'lay of the land' to new readers, to let them know a bit about who I am and what I think and/or promote. Usually, this involves kinda/sorta letting new promoters showing up that, no, mine is not a freebie website wherein you can send me anything under the sun for me to post free-of-charge. Mind you: there are plenty of things that I do post -- press releases, coming attractions, and the like -- but I do those as a courtesy to the movers and shakers whom I consider as established partners. I've come to know them, and they've come to know me. So what I share in this space for them is based on a previously established relationship: if you're coming here thinking that I'll use this room that I pay for as a freebie outlet for your wares, that just defies reality.
The other really big portion of emails or notices I receive are from just general fans. You know? People like you! These smilers see something on the web elsewhere -- some breaking news or an announcement about something genre-related -- and they want to share, perhaps hoping that I'll see it of value and throw up a post on the MainPage as well. That kind of thing is perfectly fine ... and, yet, I wanted to just offer a few words of explanation for those newbies.
Yes: like you, I'm jazzed to see that one of Science Fiction's most beloved franchises -- namely the Predator -- is getting another flick, this one apparently heading to theaters as opposed to the last that was kinda/sorta unceremoniously dumped onto Hulu. (I'm not a Hulu-hater: I'd just rather see these properties continued on the silver screen where I think wider audiences can enjoy them.) But unlike a lot of you newbies I just don't get excited about trailer drops.
I know, I know ... hear me out ...
The only point here is that -- ahem -- I tend to be a lot older than my readership. This means that I have a lot of mileage on these old bones. I've seen more trailers than I care to remember. I've seen good ones. I've seen bad ones. I've seen middling ones. The single greatest lesson I learned -- way back when -- was that even the worst movie of record can produce a pretty solid, interesting, and exciting trailer ... because that's what they're designed for. They're meant to ratchet up interest. And the folks who make them happen to be pretty damn good at their jobs.
It's for this reason that I don't get excited about them. I'll share them occasionally because that's what I do. But, alas, I'm really not in this blogging business to do full-time promotion, so I try to have very little to say about them beyond that.
In any event ... yes, I wanted to share the trailer for Predator: Badlands, something that sprung to life on the World Wide Web today.
Make of it what you will.
