in memoriam
The lovely Valerie Perrine took fandom by storm with a big comic role aboard 1978's groundbreaking Superman: The Movie -- still the best Superman movie ever made -- and its sequel, Superman II (1980). Honestly, I'm not all that sure that the lady was able to successfully parlay such screen clout into anything nearly as interesting -- not a slight, just an honest observation -- and I think generally those who know of her truly respect what she accomplished in that franchise.
Still ... for what it's worth, I do recall her work briefly aboard her screen debut: 1972's Slaughterhouse-Five is a great adaptation of the Kurt Vonnegut Jr. novel and gets my recommendation. Granted, she isn't in there all that much, but it's great to see what a presence she had even in the smallest of opportunities.
A quick rundown of her IMDB.com profile does show a few other genre credentials deserving of note. In 1985, she paid a visit to the world of Fairie Tale Theatre. In 1988, she turned up in a Horror picture titled Mask Of Murder for Master Film Production. Otherwise, the bulk of her tenure was spent in mainstream fare: that's not a bad thing, but it isn't the type of stuff I much promote in this space.
Alas, none of us lasts forever, and I just saw the notation on the Web regarding the lady's passing after a long illness.
Our warmest prayers are extended to the family, friends, and fans of Valerie Perrine.
May she rest in peace.
