On this day in 1982 (in New Zealand), Battletruck first roared its engines and raced onto the silver screen. Written (in part) and directed by Harley Cokeliss, the SciFi/Fantasy starred Michael Beck, Annie McEnroe, John Ratzenberger, and others.

"It's the 21st century, the Oil Wars have made a mess of the planet and the land outside major cities is lawless. After Hunter comes to the aid of Corlie, who has run away from the villainous Straker, he takes her to the peaceful community of Clearwater. Unfortunately for the citizens of Clearwater, Straker fully intends to get Corlie back."

Technically, the original premiere date for Battletruck (1982) remains a mystery. IMDB.com presently shows the feature as having premiered in New Zealand during the month of January, 1982; so I'm using January 1st as a placeholder until I can obtain more specific information.
